When God Appears Yet We Fail to Recognize – The Subtle Ego and Spiritual Vision

Introduction

The discourse begins by welcoming all awakened souls, elevated souls, and conscious souls to the spiritual session. Shri Anant introduces a powerful theme: even when God stands in front of us, we may fail to recognize the Divine presence. In the current global situation, wars, geopolitical tensions, and uncertainty are increasing. Events such as conflicts between nations remind humanity that many things happening in the world are beyond individual control. This time period will deeply affect many souls.

The central question raised: If God appears in front of you, will you be able to recognize Him?

Most people believe they will recognize God immediately. However, spiritual wisdom reveals that recognition depends not on physical eyesight but on inner vision (drishti).

The Story of Uttanka Muni – Knowledge Without Inner Vision

The discourse explains a story from the Mahabharata period. After the Mahabharata war, Shri Krishna was returning to Dwarka when he met Uttanka Muni. The sage questioned Krishna: If you were God, why did you not stop the war? This question reflects a common human doubt:

·       If God exists, why does suffering occur? If God is compassionate, why destruction? If God is powerful, why injustice?

Uttanka Muni became angry and attempted to curse Krishna. At that moment, Shri Krishna explained an eternal spiritual principle: No one can escape the law of Prarabdha (destiny) and time.

Then Shri Krishna showed  Vishwaroop (Cosmic Form), revealing the entire universe within Himself. Uttanka Muni’s ego/ identity dissolved temporarily. Krishna granted a boon: whenever the sage felt thirsty, water would appear. Later, when Uttanka Muni wandered in the desert feeling extremely thirsty, a dirty-looking hunter appeared offering water. The sage refused because of the hunter’s unpleasant appearance.

Later Krishna revealed the truth: The hunter was Indra himself, bringing divine nectar (amrit). Because the sage judged based on outer appearance, he rejected divine grace. Thus, even after witnessing the cosmic form, subtle ego remained.

Spiritual Insight – Why Humans Fail to Recognize God

The story highlights several key spiritual truths:

• Knowledge alone is not enough
• Spiritual practices may still leave subtle ego
• External greatness does not guarantee inner completeness
• Refined ego is the biggest obstacle on the spiritual path

The discourse emphasizes: Ego does not always say “I am superior.” Sometimes ego says “I am right.” Sometimes ego expects God to act according to personal logic. Humans often expect God to appear in grand form, wearing ornaments and divine clothing. However, the Divine may appear in ordinary or unpleasant forms.

Recognition requires: humility >  inner awareness >  purified perception >  surrender to almighty

The Meaning of Vishwaroop (Cosmic Form)

Krishna did not show the Vishwaroop merely as a miracle. The Vishwaroop demonstrates that Everything in existence is part of one Supreme Reality. Creation is not separate from the Divine. Events are not separate from the Divine. Souls are not separate from the Divine. When we see life in fragments, complaints arise.
When we see totality, surrender arises.

According to Behad ka Gyan, the Vishwaroop represents understanding the infinite multiverse and cosmic order governed by supreme consciousness.

Subtle Ego – The Hidden Barrier in Spiritual Growth

The discourse highlights an important concept: Ego constantly changes form, just like a mutating virus.

Even spiritual seekers may develop subtle ego: “I know everything.” “I am spiritually advanced.” “I am pure.” “This person cannot teach me anything.”

Such thoughts block spiritual growth. Where learning stops, growth stops. Where ego remains, God is missed.

Psychological Dimension of Spiritual Perception

Human judgment operates at three levels:

  1. Sensory level – believing only what is visible

  2. Conditioning level – accepting only what matches  own belief system

  3. Ego level – rejecting what challenges own  identity

Uttanka Muni was trapped in all three levels. The problem was not external reality but perception.

True Vivek (discernment) means: seeing essence behind form, seeing consciousness behind personality, seeing grace behind difficulty, seeing learning behind events

Knowledge without discernment becomes information. Knowledge with discernment becomes transformation.

Divine Grace Does Not Always Come in Pleasant Form

Grace may appear as: Difficulty, Delay, Insult, Rejection, Unexpected Situations, Ordinary People. Sometimes God appears as a Problem. Those who understand this secret mature spiritually. Many people reject the messenger and miss the message.

Beyond Social Identity – Knowledge Belongs to Every Soul

The discourse emphasizes that spiritual knowledge does not belong to any caste, category, or social label. Knowledge belongs to the soul. Body identity creates divisions such as high and low caste, but wisdom transcends these divisions. According to higher spiritual understanding, consciousness is equal in all beings.

Interpretation According to Higher Spiritual Knowledge (Behad Perspective)

Symbolic meaning of the story:

Ø  Krishna = Supreme Truth
Vishwaroop = awareness of total existence
Uttanka Muni = spiritual seeker
Desert = life’s tests
Thirst = spiritual longing
Hunter = unexpected form of divine help
Amrit = opportunity for liberation
Refusal = ego blocking grace

This interpretation leads towards higher awareness beyond limited perception.

Modern-Day Examples of Divine Help in Disguise

Divine assistance may come through

Ø  criticism from ordinary people

Ø  mistakes pointed out by juniors

Ø  failure that removes ego

Ø  challenges that force inner reflection

Ø  unexpected situations that transform understanding

Often humans reject these experiences because they do not appear attractive.

Siddhis and Spiritual Powers – Another Subtle Trap

The discourse mentions spiritual powers (siddhis), such as influence through sound vibration, intention, or service activities like feeding thousands of people.Such phenomena may occur in the subtle world (sukshma jagat). However, attachment to powers can strengthen subtle ego. According to higher teachings, liberation comes through knowledge and realization, not display of powers.

Practical Spiritual Practice

Daily practices suggested: observe judgments arising in mind, see consciousness in those considered inferior, remain open to learning from everyone, develop humility, identify lessons hidden in difficult situations, move from intellectual knowledge to lived experience

Spiritual teachings must become practical transformation. Otherwise they remain only information.

Inner Transformation is the Real Goal

Relationships break due to small ego conflicts. Even strong bonds such as mother and child or husband and wife suffer due to ego. Small misunderstandings can destroy peace. Therefore small spiritual insights should not be ignored. Small realizations can save life direction.

The Inner God – Aham Brahmasmi

The discourse emphasizes: The same divine presence worshipped in temples exists within the soul. The statement “Aham Atma Brahma” indicates that the soul carries divine essence. Impurities of mind hide this truth. When inner purification occurs, the difference between individual consciousness and divine consciousness dissolves.

Real Life Example – Faith During Crisis

An example is given of a person whose children are in the army during war conditions. In such situations, intellectual spirituality is tested. When uncertainty arises, faith, discernment, and inner stability become essential. Spiritual knowledge becomes meaningful during difficult times. Peace is valued only when disturbance appears.

Behad Knowledge – Multiversal Transformation

According to higher spiritual understanding, knowledge of the infinite multiverse prepares souls for transformation. Divine knowledge appears quietly without external show. Just as Krishna gave knowledge to the Pandavas during war, divine knowledge today helps souls during global transition. This knowledge leads toward liberation.

Final Insight

God is not difficult to find. The difficulty lies in recognizing God. Humans become trapped in appearance, conditioning, and pride in spiritual progress. The goal of spiritual practice is not merely gaining knowledge but developing vision that recognizes the Divine in every form. When vision transforms, inner reality transforms. When inner reality transforms, Divine presence becomes visible everywhere.
