It is a sign that your old karmic accounts are being settled so that a higher future may unfold.This is why wise souls remain peaceful even in suffering. They understand: “What is happening is good. It is freeing me.”

The Skanda Purana Story of Nandbhadra and Satyavrat

To explain this truth, a sacred story from the Skanda Purana is shared.

Nandbhadra – The Righteous Devotee: Nandbhadra was a sincere devotee of Lord Shiva (Kapileshwar Mahadev). He lived honestly, sold goods fairly, never cheated anyone, and worshipped three times a day. His life was simple, pure, and content.

Satyavrat – The Skeptic: His neighbor, Satyavrat, was jealous, atheistic, and morally corrupt. He tried to mock Nandbhadra’s faith and pull him away from righteousness.

When Nandbhadra’s son and wife fell ill, Satyavrat tried to exploit the situation: “If God exists, why are you suffering?” Nandbhadra replied with profound wisdom: “Just as a blind man cannot see the sun yet the sun still exists, those who cannot see God do not negate God’s existence.” The righteous receive prayers and blessings. The wicked receive none.

The Child Who Revealed Cosmic Truths

Seeking answers, Nandbhadra prayed to Lord Shiva. On the fourth day, instead of Shiva appearing, a leprous boy arrived. Though physically ill, the boy was spiritually luminous. He spoke words that revealed universal law: “Bodily suffering comes from mental suffering, and mental suffering comes from ignorance. Knowledge is the medicine that heals both.” True unhappiness is not physical—it is the absence of spiritual understanding.

The Four Types of Souls in the World

The divine child revealed a classification of humanity that explains all injustice, inequality, and destiny:

1. Happy Now, Unhappy Later: These people enjoy wealth and pleasure due to past good karma but do not perform good deeds now. When their old merits end, suffering begins.

2. Suffering Now, Happy Later: These souls have exhausted past merits but are now earning new ones through austerity, virtue, and devotion.

3. Happy Now and Later (Rare Souls): These rare beings still have past merit and are actively creating new merit through meditation, charity, and service.

4. Unhappy Now and Later: These souls neither earned virtue in past lives nor are earning it now. They fall into lower births, ghost realms, or animal forms.

These are the souls who neglect spirituality entirely.

The Law of Karma Is Perfect

God does not randomly give or withhold blessings. Every experience—health, disease, wealth, or loss—is a return of one’s own past actions. The Supreme Being is not punishing anyone. He is simply administering perfect cosmic justice. But there is hope. Through devotion, yoga, knowledge, and meditation, even the heaviest karma can be burned.
