Physically, the gold would have solidified, but later gradually the atmosphere became Tamas-dominant. For example, Ravana’s Palace which was made for Shiva was made of gold, and Dwaraka was also made of gold initially. But later, both were created by Diety Vishwakarma and then wound up (ended). The entire gold mine was wound up, so its remnants are hardly found now; only a little remains, converted into three to five elements.

The atmosphere changes from Sattva to Rajas to Tamas, and gold also turns into iron. So, gold had some kind of power, and that’s why it had value. Many aliens came to Earth to trade or steal gold during Satya Yuga. This is true because gold was abundant then. But when they came, time trapped them. The atmosphere was completely Sattva-dominant then, so the amount of gold on Earth was much more than the iron we see now.
